Django Girls in Lagos to teach women computer programming for FREE

Django Girls is a non-profit organization given birth to in Berlin to empower women acquire free computer programming skills. The Organization on its website disclose that one of the next place they will be visiting as part of their events is Lagos alongside other places. The organization will be training in a workshop up to 30 Nigerian Women how to build website from scratch. Its part of their vision form Women to be actively engaged in the world of programming.

Attendants will be guided into building their first websites, they will be mentored by Django Girls programmers who would delve indepth intoarears related to web developement, the organization also made provision for Breakfast and lunch in the course of the workshop.

Interested persons are not required any tuition free as the workshop is free, all participants needs is to have Good use of English and a command on their own laptops.
The Organization in a blogpost said “We believe that the IT industry will greatly benefit from bringing more women into technology. We want to give you an opportunity to learn how to program and become one of us – Women Developers,”

Interested participants should APPLY on time as their limited spaces. Applications closes on January 24, 2016. Participants will be notified of the status of their applications on January 30 or sooner.

The main workshop will take place on the February 20, with a pre-installation party, where participants will get all the required software ready for the workshop and also meet with their coach and group members, earmarked for February 19 from 4:00pm in Lagos.
The event, organized by Aisha Bello with support from The Nigerian Python Community, is sponsored by GitHub, django, Python Software Foundation, Co-Creation Hub Nigeria, and Godwin Effiong, a Senior IT leader with over 20 years experience.

The the database maker’s attorney in an ongoing lawsuit against Google revealed last week that the latter has made a total of $31 billion in revenue and $22 billion in profit from Android till date.

Google said that the figures were derived from its confidential internal financial documents, adding that the "extremely sensitive information" shouldnt have been publicly disclosed as it was meant for "Attorney’s Eyes Only."

"Google does not publicly allocate revenues or profits to Android separate and apart from Google’s general business," the company said in a court filing. "That non-public financial data is highly sensitive, and public disclosure could have significant negative effects on Google’s business."

The Mountain View, California-based company urged the court to edit related portions of the public transcript of last week’s hearing, following which the transcript was removed from electronic court records.

Filed way back in 2010, the lawsuit accuses Google of copyright violation saying that the company used Java APIs in its Android OS without permission. While Google argued that APIs cant be copyrighted, a court in 2014 ruled otherwise. Following this, the search giant took the battle to the Supreme Court, which upheld the lower courts ruling.

The ongoing arguments are now for the damages that Oracle will receive from Google. "Look at the extraordinary magnitude of commerciality here," Oracles attorney had said last week while disclosing Androids revenue and profit.

Windows 10-powered Acer Jade Primo (shown below) isnt available for purchase yet, and looks like the Taiwanese company is already working on an Android variant. A new device - the Acer S58A - was recently spotted on Geekbench benchmarking site, which reports say is the Jade Primos Android model.

If you recall, the current Jade Primo is the Acer S58. So, the Acer S58A definitely points to a variant of the Windows 10 handset. The Geekbench listing reveals that the new device is powered by Android 6.0 Marshmallow, while other specs including the SD808 chipset and 3GB RAM are same as that of the Windows 10 variant.

It is being said that the company is developing the Android variant as a back up plan in case the Windows 10 model flops - the latter has already been hit by delays. The Android Jade Primo is rumored to be made official at this years Mobile World Congress, which is scheduled for next month - February 22 to February 25.

Needless to say, none of this has been officially confirmed, so take it with a pinch of salt.

While there are no details on the features of this alleged A9 Pro, the device (model number SM-A9100) will likely be an enhanced version of the Galaxy A9, which was released by Samsung earlier this month.

The regular Galaxy A9 (model number SM-A9000) sports a 6-inch, 1080 x 1920 pixels display, and is powered by an octa-core Snapdragon 652 processor, so maybe the A9 Pro will come with a higher pixel resolution (1440 x 2560 pixels would look great on a 6-inch screen), plus a high-end processor. The Galaxy A9 Pro may also run Android 6.0 Marshmallow out of the box - unlike the A9, which currently runs Android Lollipop (though it will, most probably, be updated to Marshmallow at some point).

Right now, Samsung is officially selling the Galaxy A9 - pictured above - only in China (for around $490), and Sam Mobile has it that the A9 Pro is also headed there. Top Twitter Executives to Leave Company in Reshuffle

SAN FRANCISCO - Four senior Twitter executives are leaving the media company, which is also adding a new chief marketing officer and two board members, Chief Executive Officer Jack Dorsey confirmed, outlining the biggest leadership changes since he returned as CEO, calling for "bold rethinking".

Media head Katie Jacobs Stanton, product head Kevin Weil, and the head of the engineering division, Alex Roetter, will all leave the company, Dorsey tweeted late Sunday.

On Sunday night Jason Toff, who heads Twitters video streaming service, Vine, tweeted that he was leaving Twitter to join Google to work on virtual reality.

Some of the executives are departing under pressure and others decided on their own to leave the company, a source told Reuters. Twitter has been struggling to muster growth to please Wall Street.

The company will announce the two new board members soon, the person said.
Dorsey took to Twitter to address reports of the exodus.
Weil, Stanton and Roetter are among the highest-level departures in recent months, but several executives have left Twitter since co-founder Dorsey stepped in as interim CEO in July. He has since been named Twitter CEO.

In an earnings conference call in October, Dorsey spoke about "hiring and investing in talent" and the need for "bold rethinking."
Dorsey, who is also CEO of financial services technology company Square, has yet to lay out a detailed plan of what he wants Twitter to do differently. Dorsey plans a retreat with Twitter executives this week, the source said.

Weil has been at Twitter since 2009, although he has only served as its product head for about a year. He has often served as a face of the company, speaking at conferences and hinting at new developments on the site, such as a character count that would exceed the current 140-character limit.

Twitter has shuffled through three product heads since 2014, and Dorsey has played an increasingly large role in product development.
Stanton joined the company in 2010 and was tasked with growing its audience outside the United States. She previously worked at Google Inc and Yahoo Inc as well as the White House and State Department.
Twitter had its slowest user growth last year - it now boasts just over 300 million users - and was eclipsed by photo-sharing app Instagram, owned by Facebook Inc , which surpassed 400 million users last year.
Twitters stock has fallen nearly 50 percent since Dorseys return and is now trading below its IPO price. Analysts said there was concern Twitter had failed to grow its user base even with a quickened pace of product rollouts under Dorsey.
